Blue Line Movers

Owen Brennan spent five years driving box trucks for a national van line that kept sending 26-foot rigs down streets they had no business turning onto. He opened Blue Line Movers in 2015 running trucks actually sized to Newton’s streets, with a crew that scouts the address before move day instead of finding out live. Six trucks, twelve people on staff.

Prefer to just call? (617) 429-6053 goes directly to our Watertown Street office, not a dispatch center in another state. Or use the form above — Sofia reads every submission herself and typically confirms a walkthrough window, in-home or by video, within the same business day for anything bigger than a one-bedroom.

Sized To These Streets Since 2015

We Already Know Which Street Won’t Take The Big Truck

  • Six trucks, sized to actually fit — not the 26-foot rigs a national van line kept sending down streets built for horse carts, which is exactly what Owen drove for five years before he started this company.
  • The address gets scouted before move day — Derek walks the building or the street ahead of time, in-home or by video, since 2019, so nobody’s finding out live whether the truck fits.
  • Every job runs through a single scheduler — Sofia’s kept the board since 2017, which is why two crews never end up sent to the same address by mistake.
  • Winter gets planned around, not worked through — ice melt and extra floor runners ride in every truck December through March.
  • Registered with the Massachusetts DPU — plus US DOT and MC authority already on file for any job that crosses state lines.
Right-Sized Trucks, Every JobA Watertown triple-decker or a Wellesley cul-de-sac, the truck that shows up already turns onto the street — no rig backing out because it never should have turned in
BBB Accredited · A+ RatingAn escalation path if a job ever falls short of what we promised — that’s the only reason it matters
Coverage Confirmed Before The Truck LoadsBasic released-value coverage is included on every job at no charge, and Owen can add full replacement-value protection at your walkthrough if the extra payout ceiling is worth it to you, walked through by Owen or Derek before moving day
The Address Gets Scouted FirstDerek or Katie has usually seen the building or the street before move day, not just the file, so nobody’s improvising in a doorway that turns out too narrow

Where Our Trucks Actually Are Today

Nothing staged for the site here — this is what’s actually on the board today. One crew is loading a triple-decker in Watertown, Katie’s team just wrapped a two-bedroom walkthrough in Brookline, and Derek’s already out in Needham pricing tomorrow’s job.

Newton Moving & Storage Lineup

A Watertown one-bedroom books at $135 an hour for a two-mover crew; a Wellesley three-bedroom-plus gets a flat rate worked out at the walkthrough instead, typically $1,475 to $2,150. Either number comes from what the job actually needs — the size of the home and the crew it takes — never from which day of the week you happened to book. A driveway that turns out tighter than expected gets handled at the walkthrough, not tacked on as a fee once the truck’s already parked outside.

What Newton Notices First

Why Newton Keeps Booking Blue Line Movers

Trucks Sized To Actually Fit These Streets

Owen spent five years driving box trucks for a national van line that kept sending 26-foot rigs down streets built for horse carts. He started Blue Line Movers in 2015 running smaller trucks that turn onto a Watertown side street without a three-point stop-and-reverse, so a reschedule because the truck couldn’t fit isn’t something our crews deal with.

Someone Walks Your Address Before Move Day

Derek scouts the building or the street ahead of time — a narrow triple-decker stairwell, a tight cul-de-sac, whatever the address actually looks like — so the crew isn’t finding out live whether the truck fits or the elevator’s out of service.

Twelve People On Our Payroll, No Rented Crew

Sofia’s run the dispatch board since 2017, and Katie’s led her own crew since 2016. There’s no borrowed labor filling out a truck — whoever’s lifting your boxes is on Blue Line Movers’ own payroll, full stop.

Winter Gets Planned Around, Not Worked Through

December through March, every truck carries ice melt and extra floor runners, and if the last storm left your driveway unplowed, that’s a call the night before, not a surprise the morning of.

Not Something A Map Can Teach You

Streets We’ve Driven For 11 Years Straight

Mapping software has no idea a certain Newton side street was never built for anything wider than a horse cart, or that the Pike backs up solid most weekday afternoons. That kind of knowledge only comes from doing the work — 11 years in, the crew already knows which Brookline buildings want 48 hours’ notice for the loading dock and which stretch of Route 9 is worth routing around on a Friday, none of which shows up on a phone screen across Newton and the western Boston suburbs.

Farther Out On 128 And The Pike

Highways Out Of Newton and the western Boston suburbs We Run Every Week

Depending on the week, that could mean the Pike west toward Worcester and Springfield, or 128 either direction — north toward the North Shore, south toward the Cape connections — with plenty of jobs never leaving our ten towns at all. Ask Sofia directly and she’ll usually tell you within a day or two whether a given week has room on the schedule — a better answer than whatever an online booking calendar happens to show as open.

In Owen’s Own Words

Why Blue Line Runs Smaller Trucks

“Five years driving box trucks for a national van line taught me exactly where a 26-foot rig doesn’t belong — backing out of a Newton side street because nobody walked it first, rescheduling a family because the truck flat-out couldn’t turn onto their block. I started Blue Line in 2015 with trucks actually sized to these streets, and Derek or I walk the address before move day so we’re not finding out live whether it fits. That’s the whole idea behind the name — you stay in your lane, you know the road ahead of time, and you don’t end up parked sideways on somebody’s lawn.”

What’s Settled Before The Truck Ever Loads

Nothing on this list gets figured out once the crew is already on-site — it’s agreed to at your walkthrough with Owen or Derek, and it’s part of the estimate they write down before the truck ever backs in.

Already Settled Before The Truck Backs In

  • The figure Owen or Derek put in writing at your walkthrough, full stop — the truck showing up doesn’t change the math
  • Ice melt and extra floor runners riding in every truck December through March, and a heads-up call the night before if the last storm left your driveway unplowed
  • Pianos, safes, and anything else oversized get flagged and priced at the walkthrough, not improvised on move day
  • Basic released-value coverage is included on every job at no charge, and Owen can add full replacement-value protection at your walkthrough if the extra payout ceiling is worth it to you
  • The crew’s time and the truck’s mileage are worked into your estimate whether you’re staying inside our ten towns or heading out of state
  • Anything our crew disassembles to clear a doorway gets reassembled before they leave
  • Card, bank transfer, or check — pay however’s easiest, none of them carries an extra fee
Coverage included — Basic released-value coverage is included on every job at no charge, and Owen can add full replacement-value protection at your walkthrough if the extra payout ceiling is worth it to you Fully insured and bonded on every job across Newton and the surrounding towns Registered with the Massachusetts DPU, plus US DOT and MC interstate authority on file for any move leaving the state, from a single item to a full household
Common Newton Questions

Blue Line Movers, Answered Plainly

How much does a local move around Newton cost?
A two-mover crew runs $135 an hour, three movers run $175, four run $215, and every mover past that adds $45 an hour. During your in-home estimate, Derek looks at the actual house and tells you what crew size makes sense — a typical three-bedroom in Newton, Brookline, or Waltham usually calls for three or four movers, depending on stairs and how much packing is already done.
Is Blue Line Movers a real moving company, or do you just book us out to whoever’s available that day?
Every person who touches your furniture works for us directly. Before starting Blue Line Movers in 2015, Owen Brennan spent five years behind the wheel of oversized trucks for a national van line — the company he built afterward runs six of its own trucks and keeps twelve people on staff, office included, with nobody outside that group ever near your belongings.
What’s this about already knowing which street won’t take the truck?
It comes from Owen’s years driving full-size van-line rigs around Greater Boston, backing out of driveways and side streets the truck simply didn’t fit, then rescheduling the whole job. Blue Line Movers runs right-sized trucks matched to the job, and Derek scouts the actual street and parking situation before move day instead of finding out with a truck already stuck on a narrow Newton block.
Who actually shows up to run my move?
Katie Sullivan, our crew chief since 2016, personally runs the majority of jobs, though the calendar sometimes puts you with a different chief given eight movers spread across six trucks. Either way, Sofia lets you know exactly who’s assigned a few days out — no surprises when the truck pulls up.
What secures my spot on the schedule?
Just a $150 deposit, which comes right off your final bill rather than sitting on top of it. Call (617) 429-6053 and Sofia will get you on the calendar.
Can I move my date after I’ve already booked?
Yes — give Sofia reasonable notice ahead of your original date and the deposit simply transfers to the new one. Closings slip and leases overlap often enough that we’d always rather move your date than sit on a deposit you can’t use.
Our new place isn’t ready yet — can you hold our stuff for a few weeks?
We can — storage runs a flat monthly rate scaled to volume, and it gets folded into Owen’s walkthrough figure up front instead of showing up as a line item later. Whoever loaded your boxes into storage is the same crew that unloads them later — nobody unfamiliar with the job is handling your things for the first time on delivery day.
Our street is narrow and parking’s tight — is that going to cost us something?
Flag it to Sofia at booking and it’s baked into the truck and crew size before Owen ever assigns the job. Finding out on move day that the truck doesn’t fit isn’t something that happens here — that’s precisely what the pre-move scouting is for.
What if our closing date slips and we need a different day?
Give Sofia a few days’ notice and she’ll shift your slot at no charge. Closings slip and leases overlap often enough around here that the schedule’s built to absorb it.
What if a piece of furniture gets damaged in transit?
Basic released-value coverage is included on every job at no charge, and Owen can add full replacement-value protection at your walkthrough if the extra payout ceiling is worth it to you.
Does it cost more to book us for a Saturday?
No day-of-week surcharge here. Saturday slots just go first, particularly during peak moving season, so how early you book matters more than which weekday you land on.
Our office building requires a certificate of insurance before movers can access the loading dock — can you provide one?
Routine request — happens more than you’d think. Give Sofia the building name in advance and the certificate plus any dock or elevator reservation gets handled well ahead of move day, not chased down at the last minute.
Are you actually licensed to operate in Massachusetts, not just a name on a truck?
Yes — we’re registered with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and we carry US DOT and MC authority on file for anything that crosses state lines. Ask Sofia for the paperwork before you book if you’d like to see it firsthand.

Ready For The Truck That Actually Fits Your Street? Call Or Send Your ZIPs.

Tell the office your starting point, your destination, and a rough date — Owen or Sofia will have an actual walkthrough estimate back to you before the day’s out, not a ballpark guess. Mention anything unusual up front — a piano, a gun safe, a driveway that won’t take a full-size truck — and it gets planned for at the walkthrough instead of improvised by the crew standing in your doorway.
